Centennial Park Pickleball Court Lighting Upgrade | Crossville, Tennessee
Project Focus
A community recreation lighting upgrade focused on visual comfort, glare control, and long-term reliability for public pickleball courts.
How We Approached the Project
When the City of Crossville evaluated lighting conditions at the pickleball courts in Centennial Park, the goal was not simply to replace aging fixtures. The priority was to improve the quality of evening play for recreational users while addressing persistent issues related to glare, light spill, and ongoing maintenance.
We approached the project as a complete municipal lighting solution, considering how the courts are used day-to-day, the surrounding park environment, and the City’s long-term expectations for durability and upkeep. Because these courts serve primarily casual and recreational players, visual comfort and consistency were just as important as light levels.
The Lighting Solution
We delivered a full LED lighting retrofit across all eight pickleball courts, reusing the existing poles to minimize site disruption while significantly improving lighting performance.
The system was designed using a site-specific photometric layout to achieve a minimum average of 50 foot-candles across all playing surfaces, with uniformity ratios maintained at 1.5:1 or better. To address prior concerns around glare and light trespass, fixtures were equipped with precision optics and glare control visors, helping keep light focused on the courts and out of surrounding areas.
For this project, we selected the IKIO Dynamo Gen2 Stadium Flood Light, chosen for its optical control, durability, and suitability for community sports applications. Integrated surge protection, outdoor-rated construction, and long service life were key considerations in ensuring the system would perform reliably in a public park environment.
Execution & System Quality
Our scope included fixture removal, installation, aiming, commissioning, and post-installation support, allowing the city to work with a single partner from design through completion. All existing fixtures were safely removed, and demolition debris was disposed of in accordance with local environmental and safety regulations.
To ensure consistent results, we followed a comprehensive quality assurance process that included:
The completed system is supported by a 10-year manufacturer warranty on fixtures and a 5-year workmanship warranty on installation, reinforcing the long-term reliability of the upgrade.
The Outcome
With the new lighting system in place, the pickleball courts at Centennial Park now offer a noticeably improved experience for evening play. Glare has been significantly reduced, light spills into surrounding areas have been controlled, and the courts benefit from consistent illumination designed specifically for recreational use.
The upgrade provides the city with a lighting system that is easier to maintain, more comfortable for players, and better aligned with the expectations of a modern public recreation facility.
Why This Project Matters to Us
Projects like Centennial Park reflect how we support cities and parks departments—by delivering well-controlled, practical lighting systems that prioritize user experience, operational reliability, and long-term value. Rather than overdesigning, our focus remains on providing solutions that fit the way public spaces are used.
